Natural double cleansing: The Mazillo method to this skincare craze

Natural double cleansing

Our products will leave your skin so smooth you’ll want to wash your face twice. In fact, washing your face twice is the basis of a trend that’s taken the beauty world by storm.

Skincare gurus swear by double cleansing, the process of using two different cleansing products to ensure your face is as clean as it can possibly be. In this post, we’ll give you the ins and outs of the skincare craze and a guide to Mazillo’s natural double cleansing method.

Why do I need to double cleanse?

Let’s face it, it’s hard to keep your skin clean. Whether it’s the pillow you sleep on, the make-up you wear, or the pollutants you pass through daily, things are always getting in the way of a glowing complexion. And when residue builds up on the skin, it can lead to irritation and premature ageing.

While you may be deeply in love with your one-stop cleanser, sometimes it needs a helping hand to get the day’s dirt gone for good. This is where double cleansing comes to the rescue.

What is natural double cleansing?

Double cleansing is a simple technique to keep your face clean and clear.  It became popular as part of the Korean 10-step skincare regime and has since been supported by dermatologists and skincare gurus alike. It’s now blooming in the realm of natural beauty, where people are favouring the earth’s ingredients for their cleansing properties.

The technique begins with a natural oil-based cleanser. This step helps to dissolve oil-based dirt, such as make-up, sunscreen, and pollution. Once you’ve cleaned up the surface of your skin, it’s time for the second stage. Here, a natural water-based cleanser is used to dive deep into your pores, flush out any impurities, and remove the dead skin cells. Using a dream team of cleansers preps your skin for the rest of your routine.

How often should I do it?

Really that’s up to you!

We’ve all had nights where we barely remember to take our makeup off, never mind wash our face twice, so don’t feel pressured to do it all the time. We suggest starting with once or twice a week.  If you start to notice any dryness or irritation, you can cut down the number of times. Alternatively, if you think your skin would benefit from a little more loving, you can do it more regularly.

Some people prefer to just double cleanse at night, particularly if you have been wearing makeup all day. But it can also be effective in the morning, as sebum (the waxy-oily substance linked to breakouts) is produced whilst you sleep.

Are you ready to jump on the trend but don’t know where to begin? Don’t worry, we’ve designed a unique, effective, and all-natural double cleansing method suitable for all skin types.

The Mazillo double cleansing method

Step 1: Wash off the day

Our calming and nourishing Gentle Cleansing Oil is the perfect first step towards a glowing complexion. Made with 11 plant oils, its gentle and deeply cleansing formula washes away any trace of the day. The sesame oil helps detoxify the skin, hemp seed oil calms inflammation, and apricot kernel oil reduces redness (you can read more about our ingredients here).

Just massage 2 to 3 pumps onto dry skin, over the face, closed eyes, neck, and décolletage. Add warm water and watch the oil transform into a light milky formula. Finally, wipe it away with our 100% cotton Mazillo face cloth (p.s. we include one in every order as an extra little treat for you).

Step 2: Refresh your skin

Here’s where we deviate a little from the standard way of doing things (everyone loves an innovator, right?). Gel and foam cleansers are the common choice for the second step, but we recommend our Regenerate + Protect Essence Toner.

Mazillo Regenerate+Protect Essence Toner

This product works perfectly in a double cleansing routine. It removes the remaining traces of makeup, oil, and dirt, and is packed with ingredients with amazing antibacterial properties. And the best part? You won’t get these ingredients anywhere else.

For example, Mursalski (or shepard’s) tea is a herbaceous plant that grows exclusively in Bulgaria. This precious plant makes for a gentle cleansing effect ideal for oily skin. It’s also rich in natural antioxidants, nicotinic acid, Vitamin A, E, and C.

All you need to do is give the bottle a little shake and add a few drops either onto a cotton pad or directly onto your face and neck. There’s no need to rinse this one off, just let it sink in and work its magic.

Beyond double cleansing

Now you may be wondering what comes after double cleansing. Well, you’ll be glad to know our Essence Toner has taken you onto the next step already.

More than just part of your natural double cleansing routine, this multitasking toner has properties that are usually attributed to a serum or essence (hence the name!). It provides deep hydration and protection from harmful environmental factors. We’ve used cutting-edge Calendula stem cells, which reduce the appearance of wrinkles and smooth the skin. In essence (pardon the pun), our toner is a multifunctional product that does more than just one thing.

And the joy of skincare doesn’t stop here because all our products fit into a complete (yet simple!) routine. You can follow your cleansing ritual with a face mask, moisturizer, and facial oil too.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s get back to the topic at hand. From its origins in Korea, to our own Bulgarian twist, we’ve given you everything you need to know about natural double cleansing. The only thing to do now is to try it for yourself.
