10 Summer Skincare Tips for a Natural Healthy Glow

It’s the season of sun, sea, sand, and a gorgeous summer glow! While warm weather can help clear your skin and boost your mood, sweat, humidity, and sun exposure can also result in clogged pores and sunburn. Adjust your beauty routine with these 10 summer skincare tips and you’ll be prepped and ready for the sunny season.

  1.     Apply SPF (a lot!)

Your little tube of SPF should be your most treasured skincare item all year round, but especially when the sun is out.

Your routine: Use at least SPF 30 and reapply throughout the day, especially if you’ve been in the water.

  1.     Use a light moisturizer

Winter weather can dry out the skin, but in summer it tends to feel oilier. This can make it tempting to skip moisturiser – but you still need it!

Your skin needs nourishment and applying moisturiser can provide an additional protective layer against pollutants too. Instead of a thick and heavy cream, choose a lighter moisturiser with protective properties.

  1.       Repair environmental damage

  1.     Exfoliate occasionally

SPF is essential, but there’s no denying it can clog the pores. A gentle exfoliator can be your saviour here.

  1.     Tan from a can

We all want a healthy summer glow but lying in the sun all day isn’t the way to get it. Too much sun exposure damages skin cells and can have negative effects in the long run, such as premature aging.

To protect your skin whilst you tan, make sure you sunbathe safely wearing SPF 30 or more. Instead of staying in the sun for hours, you might want to use a tinted moisturiser of self-tan to get your desired colour.

Your routine: Don’t risk damaging your skin for the sake of a tan, choose a self-tan instead.

  1.     Travel with it

We all know the stress of the 100ml airport rules. Rather than completely changing your skincare routine when you travel, why not buy re-usable smaller containers and transfer some of your existing skincare products?

Not only will this cut down your waste, making it a perfect practice for a sustainable skincare routine, but your skin will also benefit from keeping your routine consistent.

  1.     Don’t let your products get too hot

Just like you wouldn’t leave fresh food out in direct sunlight, you don’t want to leave your skincare in the heat either.

By keeping your natural products away from direct sunlight, you can enjoy them for longer.

You might want to stash your moisturiser or a facial mist in the fridge, so you can refresh the skin throughout the day (or whenever you go to grab your next cold drink!).

We’ve left one of the most important to last – keep drinking water! It’s easy to become dehydrated in the heat, and this can lead to all sorts of problems like dizziness, fatigue, and even sunstroke.

When your skin does not get the moisture it needs, it loses elasticity and starts to feel rough. Staying hydrated will make your skin smoother and less sensitive to irritants.
