Myths, Magic, and Mazillo’s Bouquet: 5 flowers powering our plant-based skincare

Ethereal beings, traditional remedies, and the beauty of living in tune with nature. That’s what inspires us to create unique plant-based skincare at Mazillo.

While your Valentine’s flowers might be wilting on your windowsill, there’s a beautiful bouquet of ingredients in your Mazillo products that are still blooming. In this post, we’ll introduce you to the myths, magic, and modern science of 5 flowers we love to use.

How we use flowers in our plant-based skincare

All our flowers are freshly picked in Bulgaria, making a unique arrangement for high-quality skincare. There are 3 ways we use the plants in our skincare bouquet:

  1. Stem cells extracted from the plants, to maximise their benefits.
  2. Cold-pressed oils of Bulgarian origin, with active properties.
  3. Essential Oils and Hydrosols packed with skin-saving vitamins and minerals.

5 flowers in the Mazillo Bouquet

1: Bulgarian Rose

Myths: It’s time to stop and smell the roses, with the first up on our list. The legendary Bulgarian rose is grown in Bulgaria’s Valley of Roses, a region just south of the Balkan Mountains, and home to the Thracian kings. It was brought to the rest of Europe so others could admire its beauty and has come to be the symbol of Bulgaria.

Magic: Bulgaria produces close to half of the world’s rose oil. As well as its magical aroma, the plant protects the skin from environmental factors, fights acne and impurities, and contributes to a healthy and youthful-looking complexion.

Mazillo’s bouquet: We use Bulgarian rose stem cells, oil, and water in our Purify + Nourish Face Mask.

2: Orpheus Flower

Myths: Legend has it that when the mythical hero Orpheus lost his wife, an immortal flower bloomed from the tears he shed. The Rhodope Mountains he cried upon are still the only place where you’ll find the unique Orpheus flower.

Magic: Also known as Resurrection Plant, the Orpheus Flower is believed to have survived over 20 million years. As a result of its ability to endure extremely long periods without water, it has outstanding regenerating properties, hydrates the skin and makes it more radiant.

Mazillo’s bouquet: You’ll find Orpheus Flower stem cells in our Replenishing Moisturiser.

3: Calendula Flower

Myths: the warm and sunny glow of the Calendula flower has drawn people in for centuries. It’s been used since the times of Cleopatra for wound healing and skin rejuvenation and has also acquired spiritual stories such as allowing people to see fairies, women to pick the right partners and dispelling grief and pain.

Magic: Calendula extracts work to gently exfoliate the skin, stimulate its renewal, and leave it feeling nourished.

Mazillo’s bouquet: Discover the power of Calendula stem cells in our Regenerate + Protect Essence Toner.

4: Wild Chamomile

Myths: this notoriously calming plant has been used for centuries in relaxing rituals and sleep remedies. In Ancient Egypt, the flower was considered sacred and associated with the sun God Ra.

Magic: Chamomile’s fresh aroma and calming effect work their magic on sensitive and dry skin. It soothes redness and inflammation and reduces the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

Mazillo’s bouquet: You’ll find wild chamomile water in our Purify + Nourish Face Mask and Regenerate + Protect Essence Toner.

5: Lavender

Myths: Lastly, we have the lovely lavender. In Ancient Folklore, the flower represented cleanliness and purity, yet in the Victorian language of Flowers it meant distrust. Now, science tells us it’s the ultimate anxiety-busting scent.

Magic: the unique climate and soil conditions in the Kazanlak Valley in Bulgaria help grow the best-quality Lavender. Alongside enhancing your mood, the flower takes care of sensitive skin and dry spots.

Mazillo bouquet: We put lavender oil to use in our Purify+Nourish Face Mask
