You know we’re obsessed with talking about all things sustainable skincare on this blog, sharing our eco-tips, vegan switches, and how to cut down plastic, but have you ever wondered about our actual beauty routine at Mazillo? 

Well, in this post we’re giving you a peek into the beauty bag of one of our lovely founders, Mihaela Donska. Alongside her childhood best friend, Yoana Radeva, Mihaela launched Mazillo in December 2021. Inspired by the rich history of their homeland, Bulgaria, as well as their commitment to caring for the earth, the pair created 5 gorgeous products that work together on all skin types.

So, how do they fit into Mihaela’s routine? And, what about our customers’ skincare routines too? Let’s go through Mihaela’s skincare steps along with some of your feedback.

1.       Cleanse & Tone

 Gentle Cleansing Oil

Mihaela starts her routine with double cleansing (the Mazillo way, of course). Double cleansing is the best way to take the surface level of dirt off – whether that’s your makeup, the pollutants you pass through daily, or the pillow you slept on – before getting deep into the skin for a thorough cleanse. 

The first step is our Gentle Cleansing Oil. Just like the name suggests, its gentle formula washes away the day’s grime.  It’s made with 11 plant oils, including sesame oil to detoxify the skin, hemp seed oil to calm inflammation, and apricot kernel oil to reduce redness. Mihaela finds it’s the best way to prep the skin and create a clean canvas for the rest of her routine.

Regenerate + Protect Essence Toner

For the second step of double cleansing, Mihaela uses the Regenerate + Protect Essence Toner.

Now you might think a toner doesn’t belong in the cleansing stage of a skincare routine, but Mihaela ensures us that this product effectively gets deep into the pores and removes remaining traces of makeup, oil, and dirt. It’s packed with ingredients with antibacterial properties, for example, Mursalski (or shepard’s) tea, which is rich in natural antioxidants, nicotinic acid, and Vitamin A, E, and C.

For Mihaela, the best part of this product is that it’s the ultimate multitasker: ‘‘It refreshes and prepares the skin for the rest of the products, and is both a toner and an essence, so plays the role of a serum too’’.

2.     Additional Steps

Complexion Corrector

As an additional step, Mihaela uses a complexion correcting serum as she’s trying to reduce the appearance of acne scars and pigmentation. The one she currently uses is Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum, which works well in combination with Mazillo’s products and is also natural and vegan, aligning with our values.

 Eye Cream 

Another additional step in Mihaela’s routine is an eye cream, and she’s currently using Pai’s Echium & Argan Eye cream.

The skin under the eyes is more sensitive than the rest of the face and an eye cream may create less irritation than using a moisturiser under the eyes. They can also be effective in reducing puffiness, redness, and dark circles.

3.       Moisturise & Protect

Replenishing Moisturiser 

To perfect her glow, Mihaela uses our Replenishing Moisturiser.

Now, remember the Mazillo girls’ mission to revive ancient skincare remedies?  It’s captured in a unique ingredient in this moisturiser: Orpheus Flower Stem Cells. Found exclusively in the Rhodope region of Bulgaria, this plant is believed to have survived for over 20 million years and has a proven skin-lifting effect.

SPF

After she’s cleansed, corrected, and moisturised, Mihaela never leaves the house without her trusted SPF. She’s currently using Supergoop’s Everyday Sunscreen.

You’ve probably heard many times that you should wear sunscreen every day and here are some stats to show you why:

• People who use sunscreen daily show 24% less skin ageing 
• It protects your skin from UV rays and sunburn

4.     A weekly treat

Purify+Nourish Face Mask  

Once or twice a week, Mihaela treats herself to our Purify+Nourish Face Mask. ‘I use it in the evenings as it helps with acne, brightens the skin, and decreases pigmentation’, she says.
